This is a 30" x 40" original oil on canvas, Waiake Beach is a marine preserve and a beloved location for Aucklanders. It is located on the beautiful North Shore. I've painted at this beach on location numerous times and at different times of day, its one of my favorite places! Tor Island is an iconic landmark and the moored boats complete the idylic scene. This painting captures the beautiful violet, blue and green colors within the foreground shadows. I created this painting from photos and the many studies I did on location.

I worked with a large palette of colors to capture the movement and texture of the sailboats and distant clouds. The changing light reflects different colors in the water reflections.
