A 30" x 30" original oil painting on canvas. This painting was inspired by many beautiful morning walks in Heisler Park in Laguna, California. I did several plein air paintings there and used them to create this larger studio painting. The impasto brushstrokes capture the feeling of movement in the water and give the feeling of sea breezes. This iconic cove has green sand, pink sand and a golden sea cliff.
This is a 14" x 18" oil on canvas. This painting is of a cafe at The Piazza Del Poppolo in Rome. There are several restaurants in this piazza and a beautiful statue in the center. I captured a lot of gorgeous colors coming from inside the restauran. The light frames three of the waiters that are having a conversation while a couple on the left is having a romantic dinner out. These details tell the story of the evening. The thick, impasto brushwork creates texture and the lights seem to glow.
This is a 30" x 40" oil on canvas. One of my favorite beaches in California is Baker Beach. There is an amazing view of the Golden Gate Bridge and its a favorite spot for people to take their dogs. The bridge is framed on both sides by sea cliffs. Sailboats are on the horizon and the passing clouds enhance the scene. This is a 40" x 30" oil on canvas. I've spent many happy days at China Cove in Point Lobos, this amazing park is 4 miles south of Carmel By The Sea, it's a treasure trove of beautiful scenery with unique rock formations and a lot of wildlife. You can see seals, whales, otters and many different types of sea birds. This painting of China Cove is two landscapes in one, the first landscape is the view looking down into the cove, the second is the view looking south towards the distant coastline . The large scale of this painting allows for a lot of detail including some sea stars in the bottom and a spotted seal swimming accross the kelp bed.

The Newport Sailing school is out as well as an assortment of boats often found in Newport Harbor such as the duffy and the tug boat.

We passed by The Sentinel where people were waiting to get in for dinner. It was a misty evening and the lights reflected beautifully on the pavement and the warm glow of the restaurant invites the viewer in.

While living in Southern California I discovered a lot of beautiful places to paint, this painting is the view from one of my favorite vistas above Crescent Beach, its called Crescent Bay Point Park. This painting is large so its size allows for a lot of detail including many sunbathers and swimmers, the homes on the hillside and the small rocky cliff that frames the bay. The water around Laguna is gorgeous, I've expressively painted various overlapping shades of blue and viridian, hues of violet radiate from the wet sand.
This is a 10" x 12" oil on linen panel. Catalina is a short ferry ride from Los Angeles but a world away. If you get the chance to go there, the slow pace will make you feel like you've stepped back in time. This is the main harbor which is filled with boats and near the ferry landing. I spent 3 days on Catalina and this was the last painting I did there on location. The bold colors in this painting sparkle, the lively brush strokes create an impression of movement and light. I hope to go back there someday.
This is a 8" x 16" oil on linen panel. I don't often do long rectangles but this format allowed me to capture the gorgeous Marin headlands to the left of the bridge. I started this painting on location from a cliff near The Legion Of Honor in Golden Gate Park In San Francisco. The tops of the cypress trees in the foreground frame the gorgeous blue San Francisco Bay. On the other side of the bridge you can see some of Sausalito.

When we visited Tuscany, we got to explore different hilltop towns each day, I enjoyed getting to see the amazing valley views, farmland, vineyards and beautiful country roads that go from town to town. This painting expressively captures the feeling of being on top of the world in Tuscany, it was inspired by a visit to the town of Cortona, this town was the central town in the movie, Under a Tuscan Sun. Thick brushwork depicts the orange trees and 12th century village and monastery in the foreground.

I got to know the horses' personalities, this painting captures the shyness of the white horse and the way the paint horse protects her. Each painting tells a story, this tells the story of their relationship, their beautiful markings are framed by neutral background colors. I like paintings to have a strong drawing and loose brushwork, this painting has those qualities.

This is a 10" x 8" oil on linen panel. The Cunada building is one of my favorite buildings in Los Gatos. Los Gatos is a vibrant, sunny town in the Bay Area of Northern California. This was painted on location at the Los Gatos Plein Air Event in 2016. The sky is awash in beautiful pastel colors and the building is painted in confident, thick brushstrokes.

This is an 8" x 10" oil on linen panel. I started this painting on location, I was inspired by the blue highlights on this horse. Liver Chestnut horses have a blueish sheen when they are in the sun, their brown fur is almost violet. I painted the horse in a realistic way and painted thick, expressive, abstract-looking brushwork to depict the hay and barn.

The Unesco world heritage site is lined with cafes, shops and flower stands. This is a 12" x 16" oil on linen panel. Marjorie Glacier is a huge glacier, I was amazed at the glow of the glacial ice. The exposed rocks have a rosy, warm tone and contrast nicely with the cool blues of the glaciers. The floating icebergs in the foreground lead the viewer towards the glacier, Mount Sain Elias is in the background. This small painting is painted with thick but delicate impressionist style brushstrokes.

There is a special road called Route 92 that goes from Highway 280 to Half Moon Bay, I like to go there to paint along 92 in the fall because the low-hanging morning sunlight has a very special quality at that time of year. I usually paint pumpkin patches in Half Moon Bay, but this time I decided to paint the dahlia farm. The colors in this painting are amazing and the barn in the distance completes this Northern California impressionist farm scene.
